Topps Extends Exclusive MLB Trading Card Deal Through '25

Topps has extended its exclusive global rights with MLB to produce licensed baseball trading cards through ’25, stretching its status as the league’s exclusive card licensee that began in ’10. The company's current deal with MLB, signed in early ’13, was set to expire in ’20. The latest renewal arrives as Topps has supplemented its core trading card products with the Topps Now on-demand series, commemorating daily events around the league that have provided a new spark to the card collecting hobby. “Our exclusive MLB license gives us the opportunity to continue as the category leader,” said Topps VP & GM/Global Sports & Entertainment David Leiner. The renewal also thwarts any possibility for now of a re-entry into licensed MLB cards by a rival such as Panini or Upper Deck. “Topps vibrantly remains a part of the baseball lexicon that conjures images so many of us have cherished,” said MLB Exec VP/Commerce Noah Garden.
