Spring Ratings Show Francesa's Return To WFAN A Success

Francesa finished third overall in the N.Y. market behind WLTW-FM and WCBS-AMWFAN

The "business calculus" of WFAN's Mike Francesa’s return is an "initial success," judging by the spring radio ratings in N.Y., according to Andrew Marchand of the N.Y. POST. WFAN and Francesa "finished third overall" in the market behind WLTW-FM and WCBS-AM. But Francesa beat ESPN Radio N.Y.'s “Michael Kay Show," which was "good enough for fourth." In May and June, the months Francesa was back on from 3:00-6:30pm ET, he "beat Kay’s show and was No. 1 overall in the market." WFAN's full spring book numbers were "hurt by the team Francesa replaced, Chris Carlin, Maggie Gray and Bart Scott." In April, that trio "tied Kay" in the 3:00-6:30pm window. While Kay’s program has "never beaten Francesa’s over any three-month period, he and his partners, Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg, will go into the fall feeling as if they have some momentum." Their spring ratings were "very strong, despite again not being able to defeat their nemesis" (NYPOST.com, 7/10). On Long Island, Neil Best noted WFAN's Boomer Esaison and Gregg Giannotti "ranked fifth for the full spring book" from 6:00-10:00am. From 10:00am-1:00pm, WFAN’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts were "sixth for the spring quarter." ESPN Radio N.Y. "finished 11th in that time slot" (NEWSDAY.com, 7/10).
