Sports Medicine, Technology Major Focus For 76ers' Offseason

There is perhaps no professional sports team that exceeds the 76ers' "commitment to analytics and sports science," as they are "willing to share their knowledge about medicine and machines," according to Marcus Hayes of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Two weeks ago, the 76ers "gave the rest of the sports world a glimpse of how they have evolved" at a sports science summit, where "new research and ideas" were presented to sports science developers, researchers and practitioners, including sports science staffs from other teams such as the Eagles, Colts and Celtics. The summit was "coordinated" by 76ers Dir of Performance Research & Development Dr. David Martin (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/10).

PART OF THE PROCESS: In Philadelphia, Keith Pompey notes the 76ers' search for a President of Basketball Operations/GM "could drag on." The team has "been without a full-time" President of Basketball Operations/GM since Bryan Colangelo "resigned on June 7." The "holdup in filling his job could be finding someone willing to give up total power in making decisions." The 76ers "prefer someone with GM experience," and would like to "keep the front-office personnel intact." The 76ers "realize it will take a 'quite unique' person to fit into their infrastructure." The team's collaborative search "involves, at times, having four, five, six people on the phone giving their input" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/10).
