Tigers Will Offer "Pride Pack" Ticket Package For Game Against Cubs

The Tigers are collaborating with the Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber of Commerce to "offer a 'Pride Pack' ticket package" for their Aug. 22 game against the Cubs, according to Anthony Fenech of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The “Pride Pack” ticket package "includes a T-shirt, which has the Tigers’ logo on the front and a rainbow flag on the back, with the words, 'Celebrating diversity of America’s favorite pastime.'" A portion of the package price "goes toward a donation to the Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber of Commerce." The move represents a "big step for the organization by publicly showing their support for the LGBT community." The Tigers have "yet to host a themed event for the LGBT community, either in a designated 'Pride Night' or a special event ticket package." However, the Detroit LGBT Chamber the past three years has "purchased a block of tickets for a game at Comerica Park, with portions of the proceeds going to a local fundraiser" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/9). In Detroit, Tony Paul notes the National Premier Soccer League Detroit City FC has "worn special pride uniforms for several years." The Pistons, at the urging of F Reggie Bullock -- whose sister, Mia Henderson, was a member of the transgender community and murdered in Baltimore in '14 -- have "held a Pride Night." The Red Wings "participate in the NHL's 'Hockey Is For Everyone' diversity initiative" (DETROIT NEWS, 7/9).
