Facility Notes

In Sacramento, Tony Bizjak reports the NBA Kings have "sued their downtown hotel tower general contractor this week, claiming mismanagement has caused the project to soar" as much as $50M over initial budget estimates. The lawsuit is the "latest volley in an ongoing fight over who should pay to clear up dozens of subcontractor liens for nonpayment against the project." The 16-story mixed-use tower is a "cornerstone of the Kings' six-block Downtown Commons project site, which includes the Golden 1 Center arena" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 7/5).

COOKING UP SOMETHING NEW: In DC, Scott Allen reported there will be a "new dining option" when the $40M in renovations to Capital One Arena are "completed this fall." Restaurateur David Chang's restaurant Fuku, which debuted in N.Y. in '15, is "scheduled to open in time for the start of the Capitals' and Wizards' seasons in October, with locations by Section 117 on the main concourse and in the redesigned PwC Club." Fuku is not "replacing any established concession stands inside the arena" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/3).

EAGLES' NEW NEST: In Boston, Rich Thompson noted the "main achievement" of Boston College AD Martin Jarmond's first year in office will be the "completion of the school's new indoor football and training facility." The complex will "officially open with a media tour on July 25." The 115,700-square-foot facility "holds a regulation artificial-turf football field, weight room, offices and video room." Jarmond said the project is "on time and on budget." The new facility will "keep the Eagles on a routine practice schedule despite inclement weather and serve as a magnet for quality recruits" (BOSTONHERALD.com, 7/3).
