MLB On Pace To Average Under 30,000 Fans For First Time Since '03

Heading into the second half of the '18 season, MLB attendance is down around 5% and on pace to finish under an average of 30,000 fans per game for the first time since '03 (28,013). MLB got off to a slow start in part due to record-low temperatures and rainouts. Through July 1, average attendance for MLB clubs is 28,210, down 5.3% from the same period last season. The Dodgers look to lead all teams at the gate for a sixth consecutive season and have seen a growth of nearly 4% in attendance at Chavez Ravine. The Yankees lead all AL teams with an average of 42,598, up 9% over last year. The NL Central-leading Brewers have the league’s biggest upswing, averaging 28,537 fans, which is up 21.3%. The Astros are not far behind with an 18.2% increase to date. In Miami, the Marlins have a league-low average of 9,978 per game. The Orioles, Tigers, Pirates and Blue Jays are also experiencing significant drops this season. The ’18 schedule has included a two-game home series for the Twins in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well as three Padres home games in Monterrey, Mexico.
