College Facility Notes: Houston Releases Fertitta Center Renderings

In Houston, Craig Hlavaty noted ahead of the late '18 opening of the $60M Fertitta Center, a "handful of renderings have been released of what the final product should look like" on the Univ. of Houston campus. There is a "special website which shows off some of the seating options that fans will experience at Fertitta Center." In addition, webcams were "installed during construction to show work as it's being done" (HOUSTONCHRONICLE.com, 6/23).

MONEY TO BUILD: In Newark, Keith Sargeant notes Rutgers AD Pat Hobbs has "made progress toward making Rutgers' athletics facilities on par with its Big Ten peers." He has been "fundraising to the tune" of nearly $70M since launching the Rutgers Big Ten Build plan in January '16. It is "easy to forget all of the different facility improvements Rutgers has made since Hobbs took over" (NJ.com, 6/25).

CENTER OF ATTENTION: In Boston, Rich Thompson noted the "centerpiece achievement" for Boston College AD Martin Jarmond’s first year "will be the scheduled opening of the new indoor football and training facility on July 27." The 115,700-square-foot complex "holds a regulation Astro Turf football field, weight room, offices, video room and first aid." Jarmond said the facility is "on time and on budget" (BOSTON HERALD, 6/24).
