Mercedes-Benz Stadium Releases Rendering For Tailgate Space

Mercedes-Benz Stadium's outdoor space will host festivals, art shows and other events throughout the yearMERCEDES-BENZ STADIUM

Mercedes-Benz Stadium officials have released new renderings and details on The Home Depot Backyard -- an 11-acre tailgating and outdoor event space next to the venue. The green space is under construction on the former site of the Georgia Dome, which was demolished in November. New turf is being installed along with a 35-foot mirrored soccer ball sculpture. The “Backyard” will serve as a tailgating area before football and soccer games. The stadium is partnering with Alabama-based Tailgate Guys, which will offer tailgate and entertainment packages to fans. The outdoor space will also host festivals, art shows and other events throughout the year (Mike Sunnucks, Staff Writer). In Atlanta, Becca Godwin notes the full site will include a "forthcoming Orange Deck parking garage and hotel." Packages "can be reserved on a full-season, multi-game and individual game basis while space is available." Amenities will include a zone with a "three-pier, dual-level, shaded deck pavilion with picnic areas" and a "regulation-size sports flexible space that can be used for soccer, flag football and fitness programming" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 6/19).
