Facility Notes

In Seattle, Geoff Baker noted a "major challenge" to an environmental impact study (EIS) of the proposed $600M KeyArena renovation "has been launched by the corporate owners of two apartment complexes adjacent to the venue." A lawyer representing the apartments wrote that a draft version of the EIS is "'replete with incomplete and inconsistent statements' and should be 'revised and republished and subject to additional public comment'" (SEATTLE TIMES, 6/17).

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: On Long Island, Jim Baumbach notes the Islanders are "requesting a $400,000 sales tax break from the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency on their financial contribution" to the $8.7M renovation of NYCB Live's Nassau Coliseum. The team is "seeking to facilitate its temporary return to its former home arena." The Islanders are "seeking the sales tax exemption on their purchase of construction materials, equipment and other supplies needed to complete the renovation project" (NEWSDAY.com, 6/18).

FIELD OF DREAMS: PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Michael David Smith notes the NFL has "paid for an NFL-only field to be on the grounds of the new soccer stadium" for EPL club Tottenham in London. The FieldTurf will "be able to switch between that field for NFL games and a grass field for soccer games." The field "will be used for the first time" on Oct. 14 for Seahawks-Raiders (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 6/18).
