Chips & Putts: Graeme McDowell Gets New Technology Sponsor

McDowell's partnership with World Wide Technology is in place for at least a yearGRAEME MCDOWELL

In St. Louis, Nathan Rubbelke noted World Wide Technology "is sponsoring" Graeme McDowell, beginning with this week's U.S. Open. WWT Senior VP/Global Enterprise Sales Matt Horner said that McDowell's "international status and likability is complimentary to the company's interest in global branding and recognition." Horner said that the partnership "will last at least one year and likely longer" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/15).

YOUNG BLOOD: GOLFWEEK.com's Brentley Romine noted Mickey DeMorat, a 23-year-old Liberty Univ. graduate, is "making his pro debut at the U.S. Open" and "wearing his college polo and belt buckle." Demorat said he does not "have any sponsors." However, he "might after this week" because he is "still in the mix after an opening 2-over 72." Romine: "Perhaps someone with deep pockets will take note" (GOLFWEEK.com, 6/14).

HE'S BACK: PGA Superstore President & CEO Dick Sullivan said that Tiger Woods being back "definitely helps" retail sales. Sullivan: "When he became active in March and in April, certainly the products that had 'TW' or anything associated with him peaked at unbelievable levels, so we're certainly selling a lot of his product and I think that resonated across the stores" ("Power Lunch," CNBC, 6/14).
