Eagles' Super Bowl Rings Feature 219 Diamonds, Underdog Theme

Players told Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie that the "bigger and the blingier, the better" for their ringseagles

The Eagles on Thursday hosted a Super Bowl ring ceremony in South Philadelphia, and the ring is "made of pure 10-karat white gold, with a total of 219 diamonds and 17 green sapphires," according to Zach Berman of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. The ring "bears the Eagles logo with pavé-set diamonds," signifying Super Bowl LII. The Lombardi Trophy on the ring "contains 16 diamonds for the regular-season and postseason wins." There are 13 diamonds "at the base of the trophy for the regular season wins and three diamonds at the top for the postseason victories." The ring's bezel has a "waterfall of 127 diamonds" and four green sapphires for the team's four NFL championships. There is also a "silhouette of Lincoln Financial Field and 'Fly, Eagles Fly!'" and a "dog mask inscribed inside," harking to the team's underdog theme during the playoffs (PHILLY.com, 6/14).

RING BLING: The INQUIRER's Berman notes before the Super Bowl parade, Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie "had a meeting to discuss the rings," where the players "told Lurie that the 'bigger and the blingier, the better.'" Lurie said, "That's what we did" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 6/15). Eagles S Malcolm Jenkins said, "Mr. Lurie asked us if we wanted it to be modest. And the answer was a resounding, 'No!' Don't want to be modest. It's the first time, so let's act like we've never been there before" (NBCSPORTSPHILADELPHIA.com, 6/14). Lurie said, "It was such a detailed process, from every bit of wording that was on the ring to the placement of the diamonds, to the shape, the size. ... I never really thought of the details that were required" (USATODAY.com, 6/14).
