Washington State Using Spring Game To Focus On Mental Health

Washington State is using its Crimson and Gray spring football game in '19 as a "platform to promote suicide prevention and mental health awareness" following the suicide of late QB Tyler Hilinksi in January, according to Theo Lawson of the Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW. WSU AD Pat Chun said, "Bringing more awareness for suicide prevention and mental health is something very close to our hearts. This day will benefit our students, faculty, staff and greater community." Lawson noted WSU Athletics and Student Affairs have "partnered to launch 'Gameday for Mental Health'" in conjunction with the '19 spring game, in order to "spread information and spur more conversation as it relates to mental health education and wellness." Hilinski was the "presumptive replacement" for Luke Falk next season. Meanwhile, Lawson noted the game "will return to a familiar location, Martin Stadium," in '19 after an "eight-year residency at Spokane's Joe Albi Stadium" (Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW, 6/9).
