Franchise Notes

In Boston, Dan Shaughnessy notes Patriots WR Julian Edelman "tested positive for PEDs and was suspended for the first four games of the '18 season, pending appeal." Edelman has worked with Alex Guerrero, Tom Brady's trainer, and Brady and Patriots coach Bill Belichick have been "at odds over Guerrero’s access" to the team. Belichick now has a "new weapon to use" against Brady, Patriots Owner Robert Kraft and "anyone who’ll insist that Guerrero is a legit trainer and a swell guy who should be allowed full access to the Patriots facilities." Edelman's suspension is "big news not because of how it impacts" the '18 season, but "because of how it impacts Tom vs. Bill." The "notion that Belichick is being unreasonable regarding Guerrero was dealt a body blow with the suspension of Edelman" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/8).

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION: In Ontario, Steve Milton noted the CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats are "replacing their cheerleaders" a "'performance team' in athletic attire." Ticats Exec VP/Business Operations Matt Afinec "describes the Performance Team as 'brand ambassadors.'" He said that the group will "represent the franchise outside the stadium at a greater number and more wide-ranging events than the cheerleaders did." Afinec said, “This is an evolution. It’s consistent with the tone of social issues going on in 2018" (HAMILTON SPECTATOR, 6/7).
