Facility Notes

In S.F., Michelle Robertson reports the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum has "introduced in-seat beer service" for attendees at A's games over 21. It is a perk "no professional sporting facilities in California have offered" since the mid-'80s. A's President Dave Kaval said that the new service will "help alleviate congestion at concession stands, plus it's convenient to fans absorbed in game play." Bridge Concessions "brought on about 50 new employees to serve as vendors," who will serve a "handful of beer options in aluminum bottles throughout the general seating areas of the ballpark" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 6/8).

ALL-INCLUSIVE: Milwaukee-based WTMJ-NBC's Ben Jordan noted the Bucks hope their new arena "will be a trendsetter," as it will be one of the first NBA arenas to "have gender-neutral bathrooms." Gender-neutral bathrooms will "accompany dozens of men's and women's restrooms." The plan "garnered mixed reviews from fans." Not every bathroom inside the new arena "is gender-neutral, in fact just a small portion of them are, but patrons will be able to find them on every level." Each gender-neutral restroom "has just one stall" (TMJ4.com, 6/6).

MOTOR CITY MEDICINE: Detroit Medical Center announced the construction of a $65M sports medicine facility funded by Red Wings and Tigers President & CEO Christopher Ilitch "for all levels of athletes next to Little Caesars Arena." In Detroit, Breana Noble noted the five story, 127,000-square-foot DMC Sports Medicine Institute will be a "state-of-the-art, comprehensive care facility for professional, collegiate, high school and recreational athletes," and is "replacing a surface parking lot." The facility is "projected to open" in '20 (DETROIT NEWS, 6/7).
