Marketplace Roundup

Mizzen+Main today is rolling out a new Phil Mickelson Logo Collection as part of their partnership with the golfer. The brand today also will have pop-up shops with the gear in Atlanta and Ft. Worth. The Mickelson collection includes a variety of shirts that feature the golfer's signature jump logo. Mickelson teed off this morning at the PGA Tour FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, and was not wearing the long-sleeve Mizzen+Main gear for the first round (Austin Karp, Assistant Managing Editor).

IT'S TRADITION: In DC, Kareem Copeland noted new Redskins QB Alex Smith is "keeping with a decades-old tradition previously undertaken by star athletes" in the area -- such as Capitals LW Alex Ovechkin, Wizards G Bradley Beal and former NFLer LaVar Arrington -- by appearing in an "Easterns Motors commercial." Smith was joined by teammates CB Josh Norman, LB Ryan Kerrigan and WR Jamison Crowder to "film a parody" of his "welcome to the area." The quartet wore "gold jerseys" with the Easterns' logo on front and "burgundy shorts featuring the Redskins logo." It was Crowder's "first commercial he's ever appeared in" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/6).

BUILDING ANTICIPATION: In Miami, Michelle Kaufman notes the Brickell City Centre in downtown has a "gigantic mural" of Brazil F Neymar. It was created as part of Bleacher Report’s #LargerThanLife campaign to "get American sports fans pumped" for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The other two murals are of Egypt F Mo Salah in N.Y.'s Times Square, and France MF Paul Pogba in New Orleans. Fans who "take photos of the mural and post it on social media with hashtag #LargerThanLife can win a chance to fly to New York for the June 20 Steve Nash Showdown, a celebrity soccer match between NBA and soccer stars" (MIAMI HERALD, 6/7).
