Houston's McNair, Fertitta Face Off In Uptown Real Estate Business

Texans Owner BOB MCNAIR and Rockets Owner TILMAN FERTITTA are going "head-to-head ... in the competitive game of real estate" in Houston, according to a front-page piece by Nancy Sarnoff of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. An investment firm founded by McNair yesterday "announced plans" for a $500M project "anchored by a luxury hotel on the southern end of Post Oak Boulevard" set to open in '23. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has "agreed to manage the property." Meanwhile, Fertitta has "just opened a swanky hotel development of his own on the other end of the boulevard, a mile and a half away." Fertitta "recently opened his 250-room hotel as part of a 10-acre development with multiple restaurants, office and conference space and residences." Uptown Houston District Dir of Research & Economic Development BOB ETHINGTON said that the two projects, both with sky-scraping towers, "will become recognizable landmarks for the area." At an estimated 51 stories, the McNair tower will be the "second-tallest building on the Uptown skyline." Fertitta’s newly opened Post Oak Hotel is now the area’s "second-tallest building at 38 stories." The focus of McNair’s project "will be a 150-room Rosewood hotel and 80-unit condominium tower." Plans "call for an 18-story office building, a 33-story apartment tower and several shops and restaurants" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 6/5).
