The Good Stuff: Browns' Hue Jackson Takes A Dip For Charity

Browns coach HUE JACKSON on Friday "fulfilled his promise" of jumping into Lake Erie if the team ever finished 1-15 or worse again. Jackson took a "quick dip at Huntington Beach while about 150 members of the Browns organization joined him in the water during a charitable event." Proceeds of $30,000 went to the Hue Jackson Foundation, which "combats human trafficking in Northeast Ohio." Jackson: "I made a statement, and I have to back it up" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 6/2). 

PLAY BALL: The Packers' Green & Gold Charity Softball game on Saturday drew "more than 6,500 fans" to Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisc. The event raised $45,000 for "charity, including Young Life, an organization that pairs middle, high school and college students with mentors, and organizations supporting research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis" (POSTCRESCENT.com, 6/2). Packers LB CLAY MATTHEWS "suffered a broken nose after he was hit in the face with a line drive" (GREENBAYPRESSGAZETTE.com, 6/2).

FINS UP: Dolphins QB RYAN TANNEHILL and former players BRIAN HARTLINE and CHRIS CHAMBERS went deep-sea fishing with fans Saturday as part of Fins Weekend. DAN MARINO and other former players also were "preparing to golf with Dolphins fans" as part of the "one-day event." Proceeds benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 6/3).

THE GOOD STUFF: Citizens Bank Park was "nearly half-full" on Friday for Eagles QB CARSON WENTZ' first A01 Foundation charity softball game. About 25,000 tickets "were sold in advance." Wentz' game was a preview of "what it might be like to have him in the community long-term, as one of its most prominent citizens, one with a strong religious orientation" (PHILLY.com, 6/1)....Panthers QB CAM NEWTON on Friday held his annual Kicking it with Cam charity kickball tournament in Charlotte, with 25 teams that "included a couple dozen celebrity players." TERRELL OWENS, Falcons WR JULIO JONES and a "number of Newton's teammates" were in attendance (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 6/1)....TOM BRADY on Friday held his annual Best Buddies benefit, which included Brady and his "VIP friends playing flag football at Harvard Stadium" (BOSTONGLOBE.com, 6/2).
