The WNBA N.Y. Liberty are "courting potential new owners," and at least two different groups "were at the Liberty’s home opener in Westchester County last Friday," according to Doug Feinberg of the AP. WNBA President Lisa Borders said she "happened to see" Steiner Sports Marketing Founder Brandon Steiner and "a couple other people who are interested." Feinberg noted Borders "spent a few minutes chatting with Steiner." MSG Owner James Dolan "put the franchise up for sale last winter but couldn’t find a suitable buyer." Though Borders was "chatting up potential new owners, she made it clear that it’s not up to the league to decide who buys the team." Dolan "moved the franchise this year from Manhattan to the Westchester County Center in the suburbs for all but two home games." The new venue is "much smaller than the Garden, with maximum seating at nearly 4,500." Borders: "I understand MSG is a really big venue. He decided to move in the interim to Westchester. We appreciate the economics. Concerts and other opportunities to use MSG are perhaps better economically" (AP, 5/29).
