Golden Knights Working Toward Locking Down Official Trademark

As the Golden Knights get ready for the Stanley Cup Final against the Capitals, they are "closing in on finally being able to register the team name and logos with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office," according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. The College of St. Rose, which "initially opposed the Golden Knights trademark because the school's nickname is also the Golden Knights, never filed a formal opposition." The U.S. Army acknowledged that it is "working on an amicable solution." Once the co-existence paperwork is filed, the Golden Knights will "have no other opponents in their path to get their trademarks." The process will "take four to six months" (ESPN.com, 5/24).

DON'T JINX IT: Whether the Golden Knights win or lose the Stanley Cup Final, Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak said that he has "been in talks" with the team's marketing department to "coordinate 'some type of appropriate celebration.'" Sisolak and Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman "agree that a parade should be held" if the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup. Goodman "could see a number of agencies and resorts involved in planning a potential victory parade, including the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the casinos that line the Strip" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 5/25).

PREMIUM PUCKS: The Golden Knights and Rank + Rally will be selling limited-edition $799 crystal hockey pucks for the Stanley Cup Final. The pucks, which have 1,200 crystals, have been crafted for Rank + Rally -- Levy Restaurants’ retail arm -- to sell at T-Mobile Arena. There are only four made for now, but more could be created and sold depending on demand. They are part of a number of special items for the Stanley Cup Final. Rank + Rally Division President Catherine Cronin said, “We didn’t want to jinx ourselves, but honestly, we started planning in March.” The Capitals-Golden Knights series starts Monday in Las Vegas (Mike Sunnucks, Staff Writer).
