Sports Business Awards: MLS Wins Best In Social Media

Last night's Sports Business Awards saw MLS win Best in Sports Social Media, with the league continuing to generate sizable fan engagement outside the traditional norms of being led by national TV. In addition to sizable gains in following and engagement across many social networks including Twitter, MLS also became the first major U.S. sports property to commit live games to Facebook with its package that began last year. The Facebook games included a series of interactive features, such as graphics, fan polling and other elements customized for the platform. “We are focused every day on finding new ways to deliver content to our fans,” MLS Senior VP/Media Seth Bacon said. “The sky’s the limit for us. We’re going to be continuing to try a lot of new things. And the arrival of new platforms interested in live content is nothing but positive for us.”
