PRESIDENT TRUMP yesterday at the White House praised driver MARTIN TRUEX JR. for his "impressive on-track work" that won him the '17 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series title. Trump highlighted Furniture Row Racing's "never give up" slogan. He also thanked NASCAR Chair & CEO BRIAN FRANCE as an "early supporter and praised NASCAR fans for their patriotism." Members of Truex' team "posed for selfies with the president after the speech." Truex said that Trump also "gave a tour of the White House" (MCCLATCHYDC.com, 5/21).

NAMES: U.S. Olympic swimmer ARIANA KUKORS SMITH filed a lawsuit against USA Swimming, "alleging top officials governing the sport knew her longtime coach was sexually abusing her and failed to investigate or stop him." Kukors Smith, a member of the '12 U.S. Olympic team, "went public with her relationship with her former coach, SEAN HUTCHISON, earlier this year" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/22)....Attorneys for LOU HOLTZ said that the former college football coach and the news website The Daily Beast have "settled a defamation lawsuit" filed by Holtz. The Daily Beast "apologized for and corrected the headline that ran July 19, 2016, with a story on Holtz's remarks at a luncheon the Republican National Coalition for Life held during the Republican National Convention." The headline read: "Lou Holtz at RNC says Immigrants are Deadbeats Invading the U.S." (AP, 5/21)....Seahawks Chair PAUL ALLEN has donated $1M to a "campaign trying to raise the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21 in Washington" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 5/22)....WWE’s JOHN CENA will star in the upcoming YouTube Red animated series “DALLAS & ROBO,” set to premiere May 30 (ESPN.com, 5/21)....Buccaneers QB JAMEIS WINSTON announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend, BREION ALLEN (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 5/21).
