Cavs-Celtics Game 1 Rating Down Slightly Over '17, But Up From '16

ABC earned a 5.4 overnight rating yesterday afternoon for the Celtics’ 108-83 blowout of the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, down 4% from a 5.6 for the net’s Warriors-Spurs Game 1 in the Western Conference Finals last year. The matchup last year was the best figure for any conference finals Game 1 on ESPN or ABC since ’14. While down from last year, Cavaliers-Celtics Game 1 is up 32% from a 4.1 rating for Cavs-Raptors Game 1 in ’16 on a Tuesday night. Yesterday’s game peaked at a 6.5 rating from 5:30-5:45pm ET. Cleveland led all markets yesterday with a 22.5 local rating, followed by Boston with a 12.2 (Josh Carpenter, Assistant Editor).

STILL THE SAME: In N.Y., Andrew Marchand noted TNT's Marv Albert, who will be 77 in June, has "no plans for any retirement tours or finals games." Albert said, "There are several years left on my contract. I will know when it is time to say 'OK, that's it.' Right now, I feel almost the same way I did 20 years ago" (N.Y. POST, 5/13).
