Rozier's "Scary Terry" Persona Goes Viral As NBA Playoffs Ramp Up

Scary Terry T-shirts have a caricature of Rozier wearing a mask from the movie "Scream"BARSTOOL SPORTS

Celtics G Terry Rozier's "Scary Terry" marketing persona has "gone viral in Boston" this postseason, and now there is a "'Scary Terry' store with a variety of apparel choices and many versions of the caricature," according to Michael McIntyre of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. During the Eastern Conference Finals, there are likely to be "fans, maybe even players on the bench, sporting 'Scary Terry' T-shirts." The name comes from a character on Adult Swim's "Rick and Morty," and the shirts have a "caricature of Terry wearing a 'Scream' mask." However, there are a "number of versions." Rozier is repped by Cleveland-based Verus Management Team, and the firm's Dir of Media & Marketing David Mariotti is "all over social media" promoting clients like Rozier. Just before All-Star Weekend in February, Rozier "wore the shirt," and the persona "started to take off." Now he has "Scary Terry" shoes as well. Mariotti said, "Boston loves it. They're embracing it." Cleveland's North Water Productions has been "busy making videos playing up the 'Scary Terry' persona, which have been shared on Twitter by Barstool Sports" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 5/14).

CUSTOM KICKS: ESPN.com's Nick DePaula wrote when he "isn't wearing several of the signature Kyrie models," Rozier has been "showcasing some Celtic pride with a pair of spirited hand-painted custom kicks." Dylan Robie, a local 18-year-old high school senior, "stylized a white pair of the Kobe AD with ample graphics for Boston's rising star after a series of Instagram direct messages with Rozier's brother." A series of "gold clovers accents the black-and-green upper, with a cartoon depiction of Rozier's mask-donning 'Scary Terry' character along the side" (ESPN.com, 5/12).
