Some Bradley Center Employees Not Moving With Bucks To New Arena

Full-time employees expected to lose their jobs at the Bucks' new arena include electricians and plumbersBUCKS

Some longtime BMO Harris Bradley Center workers "won't be moving" to jobs at the new Bucks arena, while others who "remain to help close down the 30-year-old arena will receive bonuses and severance packages, approved by the Bradley Center board," according to James Nelson of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Bradley Center Sports & Entertainment President & CEO Steve Costello said that he "expected that 12 to 14 of the 50 front office and administrative staffers from the Bradley Center will find jobs at the new arena." That is "fewer than anticipated, after assurances offered by the new owners of the Bucks" in '16 when plans were finalized for the new arena. The full-time employees losing their jobs "include electricians, plumbers, carpenters and other skilled tradespeople needed to operate and maintain a large events venue." Bucks Senior VP/Communications Barry Baum said that the team has "given plenty of consideration to the Bradley Center staff." He added, "We've hired nine full-time employees who had been working at the Bradley Center and we plan to make more offers shortly." Costello said that among those hired "include workers who handle security, ticketing, accounting and maintenance/operations." The Bradley Center board last year "approved a pool of $100,000 in bonuses and up to 20 weeks in severance pay for key full-time employees." The board also "approved a separate bonus package for Costello, providing that he remains on the job through July 1." Costello, who has been with the Bradley Center since it opened, has "not been offered at job at the new arena and said his future plans are uncertain" (JSONLINE.com, 5/11).
