College Marketing Notes: Georgia Tech AD Talks Adidas Rebranding

Georgia Tech AD Todd Stansbury said the athletic department's rebranding under Adidas to "Georgia Tech gold" across all teams was "nice to get done," as the school "needed to get our look right." Stansbury said he "wanted to make sure knowing that we were going to have a new apparel partner that we were ahead of the curve on that and weren't caught flat-footed" with a logo and color scheme in place. Stansbury: "I had been through the process at other places, but I had no idea how difficult the gold thing was going to be just because gold, as I found out, is a pretty tricky color." Stansbury said the school will "prioritize what needs to go first" in terms of changing colors and logos and added the ones "most visible we're going to try to get to as quickly as we can" ("The Todd Stansbury Podcast," RAMBLINWRECK.com, 5/4).

WE HAVE A DEAL: Eastern Kentucky signed a 10-year deal that will make Adidas the "official athletic footwear, apparel and accessory brand" of the school. EKU AD Stephen Lochmueller said that this is the "first-ever, complete, department-wide apparel partnership" for the school. Adidas will supply EKU's 16 teams with "footwear, apparel, and accessories, and will be the official equipment provider for the EKU baseball team" through the '27-28 academic year (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 5/8).

NEW LOOK: In Virginia, Dave Johnson noted Hampton on July 1 "will become a full-fledged, head-to-toe, partner with Under Armour." The five-year deal will see UA "provide uniforms and equipment" for all 17 of the school's varsity sports. Hampton will "become the third full member of the Big South to sign with Under Armour, following Campbell and Gardner-Webb" (Hampton Roads DAILY PRESS, 5/5).
