NFL Exec Throws Cold Water On Idea Of Draft, Super Bowl In London

NFL U.K. Managing Dir Alistair Kirkwood said that there is "no chance" of London hosting a Draft or Super Bowl in the near future "despite the continued growth of the game in the UK," according to SKY SPORTS. Kirkwood said on Sky Sports' "Inside the Huddle" podcast those two events were "so integral to the domestic market it would be difficult to justify pitching for either, even if a team did move" to London on a permanent basis. Kirkwood: "You have to respect all the other markets that are out there in the U.S. ... It would be difficult to justify lobbying really hard for something over and above those locations that have had fanbases and teams for a lot longer than we have been operating." Jaguars Owner Shad Khan's offer to buy Wembley Stadium has been "seen by many as a precursor to relocating the team to London" (SKYSPORTS.com, 5/3). Khan earlier this week said that he "would be keen to hold the Super Bowl at Wembley, though it was 'premature' to discuss the prospect." Khan said, "Wembley is a great stadium and you want to get it configured to hold Super Bowl and World Cup finals" (BBC.com, 4/30).
