Strong Schedule Helps VT Football This Year, But '19 Could Be Problem

Viginia Tech will host Miami, Notre Dame and Virginia all in the same season for the first timeGetty Images

Virginia Tech AD Whit Babcock said that ticket sales for the '18 football season are "above projections," though the prospects for the '19 season are "more problematic," according to David Teel of the Hampton Roads DAILY PRESS. Interest in this year's schedule is "not surprising," as VT will host Miami, Virginia and Notre Dame for the first time. However, Babcock is "concerned" about the '19 home slate, which includes Furman, Old Dominion, Duke, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest. Babcock: "It’s the only year, for my goodness, the next 13 that we don’t have a schedule -- again, anybody can beat you -- but usually we have some opponents with more tradition. Is that the best way to say it?" He added, "We actually tried to keep our prices relatively low this year, when we could have gone sky high with seven home games and Notre Dame and Miami and U.Va., in hopes that we can carry that season-ticket-price over to next year, which, quite frankly, might be a little overpriced" (Hampton Roads DAILY PRESS, 5/3).
