Former Lions President & GM MATT MILLEN "continues treatment for a rare disease called amyloidosis that has robbed his heart of most of its normal function." Because it "often goes undiagnosed, amyloidosis carries life-threatening effects." Millen likely will "need a heart transplant, the result of living with this rare disease for years without knowing." He has "undergone chemotherapy most every Monday for eight months, and the side effects usually linger until Wednesday." Millen, who has served as a game analyst for Fox and Big Ten Network, "intends to return to the booth this fall" (Allentown MORNING CALL, 4/29).

PERKS OF THE JOB: Univ. of Wisconsin AD BARRY ALVAREZ is "getting a raise" for his 15th full season on the job. Alvarez will make $1.175M per year beginning in '18-19 under a modified compensation agreement that runs through '22. He is making $1.15M this school year -- $500,000 in base salary and $650,000 on an additional compensation agreement that has climbed by $25,000 each year. Alvarez now will have a fixed salary with a higher total value, $1.55M when a yearly lump-sum payout of $375,000 is included (MADISON.com, 4/28).
