Marketplace Roundup

GOLFWEEK's Beth Ann Nichols noted golfer Stacy Lewis "plans to compete through the Marathon Classic in mid-July and play a full season" in '19 despite recently finding out that she is pregnant. Under most sponsorship contracts, players "get paid based in part on the number of tournaments they compete in." But Lewis said her sponsor KPMG wants to "pay me for the whole contract, regardless of the number of tournaments I played." Lewis is "excited about" what KPMG’s decision "could mean for future moms on tour." Perhaps companies will one day "write a maternity-leave clause into contracts" (GOLFWEEK.com, 4/26).

GET FIT: In Detroit, Annalise Frank reported three Detroit Planet Fitness franchisees have "signed a two-year deal" to be the Tigers' official fitness partner in an agreement worth $100,000 annually. PF Michigan Group co-Owner Bryan Rief said that the deal "gives Planet Fitness in-stadium advertising and signs." Rief added that the group is "still in talks with the Tigers" aimed to "expand the marketing relationship to include more fitness-related programming during games and promote Planet Fitness' Judgement Free Generation anti-bullying initiative" (CRAINSDETROIT.com, 4/25).

PICK ME UP: In Houston, Demetrio Teniente notes Texans DE J.J. Watt and Astros 2B Jose Altuve delivered a new '18 Ford F-150 to area fan Donald Hayes after he won the truck by "participating in the Papa's Pickup Powered by Gullo Ford giveaway." The truck was "wrapped in Papa John's logos" and featured "photos of Watt, Altuve" and Rockets G James Harden (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 4/27).
