Charles Schwab Lands Entitlement Of Ft. Worth PGA Tour Stop

S.F.-based Charles Schwab is "further expanding its presence in golf by assuming title sponsorship" of the longstanding PGA Tour event at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, according to Erik Matuszewski of FORBES. The four-year agreement, beginning next season and running through '22, is a "much-needed boost of stability for one of the longest-running tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule," one that traces back to '46. Charles Schwab is already a "major sponsor of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, and earlier this month signed a three-year deal to become a sponsor of the PGA Championship." The financial services company has offices "throughout Texas," including one in downtown Ft. Worth, and is "building a new corporate campus" in the suburb of Westlake that is set to open next year (FORBES.com, 4/23). The AP noted locally based American Airlines, AT&T, XTO Energy and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway are backing this year's event at Colonial after Dean & Deluca "withdrew as title sponsor after only two tournaments of a six-year deal."  A new tournament name and logo will be announced at a later date, along with the dates for the '19 Colonial (ESPN.com, 4/23).
