Aaron Rodgers Joins Bucks' Ownership With Minority Stake

Rodgers is the only active NFLer to have an ownership stake in an NBA team in his marketgetty images

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has "joined the local ownership team" of the Bucks, according to James Nelson of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The announcement "drew a raucous ovation from the sold-out crowd" when it was made during the Celtics-Bucks playoff game Friday at BMO Harris Bradley Center. It is the "highest-profile and most recent addition to the group of local investors in the Bucks." The amount of Rodgers' investment "was not made public." Rodgers "sat courtside at the game" with girlfriend Danica Patrick and Bucks co-Owner Wes Edens. Edens and co-Owner Marc Lasry bought the Bucks in '14 from former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl for $550M. They were "later joined" by N.Y. real estate exec Mike Fascitelli and hedge fund owner Jamie Dinan. In the fall of '14, the Bucks "added a group of local owners that included five prominent African-American business leaders and philanthropists," as well as Milwaukee business execs. Edens said of Rodgers, "This is not a vanity play from his standpoint" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/21). ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky noted Rodgers is the "only active NFL player to have an ownership stake in an NBA team" and the "first active NFL player to own a piece of a major sports franchise in the market in which he plays" (ESPN.com, 4/20).
