Hurricanes' Plan For New Video Board At PNC Arena Pushed Back

The Hurricanes' plan for a new scoreboard at PNC Arena will be "pushed back a year because engineers had reported back that they didn't have enough time to assess the roof structure," according to Luke DeCock of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. The Centennial Authority, which manages the arena, also decided it "needed to hire a consultant to come up with better bid specifications." Bids for the project were solicited and rebid, and Hurricanes Owner Tom Dundon "expressed a willingness to cover overages for structural changes, since there was uncertainty about how much it would cost to rework the arena's roof to support the giant new board." The building and construction committee "voted to consider a package of lower-priority Hurricanes requests for next season, including new lighting and a 3-D projection system." Dundon wanted the new scoreboard as his "splashy big initiative to herald a new regime," so not getting it is "deflating for the Hurricanes and their fans alike" (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 4/17).
