Kings TV Analyst Jerry Reynolds Ends Longtime Run In Sacramento

NBA Kings TV analyst Jerry Reynolds officially stepped "down from his position" following last night's season finale against the Rockets, according to Benjy Egel of the SACRAMENTO BEE. Reynolds has been with the Kings in "various roles" since they moved to Sacramento from K.C. 33 years ago. He served as the team’s coach from '86-90 and has "worn many other hats," including GM and Dir of Player Personnel. Reynolds still is "expected to contribute to game broadcasts and shows" on NBC Sports California as well as Kings coverage on KHTK-AM, though "details of the agreements have yet to be confirmed." Reynolds’ "wisecracking, grandfatherly demeanor has complemented Grant Napear’s fiery personality on broadcasts" since '98 (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/12). Reynolds said, "This is strictly my decision. They’ve given me the opportunity to change my mind a couple of times, but I know it’s the right thing." Reynolds said that the team "offered him a long-term contract last summer, but he turned it down in lieu of a one-year deal." NBCSPORTSBAYAREA.com's James Ham noted Reynolds made the "difficult decision to walk away from full-time duty, in part because of long-term health concerns." Reynolds: "I am a 20-year diabetic and honestly, the last year was tough on me." With his "country charm and flair for coining nicknames, Reynolds helped create a broadcast that is uniquely Sacramento." He brought a "lighthearted approach to the game through good seasons and bad in Sacramento" (NBCSPORTSBAYAREA.com, 4/11).
