Texas Athletics Dignitaries Touring State To Reconnect With Fans

Football coach Tom Herman is scheduled to be at most of the stops for the "This is Texas Tour"GETTY IMAGES

The Univ. of Texas later this month will begin a "This is Texas Tour" around the state to help UT athletics "reconnect with its fan base,'" according to Brian Davis of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. UT AD Chris Del Conte said, "We should be out every year. We should be out amongst our fans, donors, alumni and potential students every year. ... You need to have open dialogue." Del Conte said that football coach Tom Herman is "scheduled to be at most, if not all, tour stops." But it is "wrong to characterize this as a tour designed solely for Herman," as Del Conte is also adamant that the athletic department, admissions and alumni organization will all be featured at each stop. The tour "begins in Midland on April 24 and will go to Amarillo on April 25," with all events running from 6:00-8:00pm CT. Other tour stops include Dallas (May 8), Ft. Worth (May 9), Corpus Christi (May 14), San Antonio (May 15), Houston (May 16), Rio Grande Valley (May 21) and Tyler (May 23) (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 4/11).
