Tennis player Madison Brengle is suing the WTA and ITF for allegedly ignoring a rare medical condition she has that caused her intense suffering when subjected to blood tests for doping. Brengle, once ranked as high as 35th in the world, charged the WTA and ITF with “outrageous conduct" in subjecting her to "anti-doping blood testing using needles despite ... knowing and ignoring that she suffers from a rare medically-diagnosed physical condition which results in both temporary and permanent physical injury, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering from having a needle inserted into her vein, and thereafter extracting punishment and repeatedly harassing Brengle following her challenge to this conduct.” Her medical condition is called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type I. Brengle is represented by Peter Ginsberg, who also represented Jonathan Vilma and Ray Rice in their lawsuits against the NFL. The complaint calls for damages “believed to be in excess of $10 million.” She alleges the testing affected her play. The lawsuit also names ITDM, which conducts sample collections and doping controls for international clients in sports; Stuart Miller, the Senior Dir of Development and Integrity at ITF and its AntiDoping Manager; and John Snowball, the IDTM Doping Control Officer.
