Islanders Owner Says Everything On Schedule For Belmont Arena

Islanders co-Owner Jon Ledecky said that everything was "on schedule for the building of the team’s new arena at Belmont Park," according to Brett Cyrgalis of the N.Y. POST. Ledecky said that the proposed date to move in for the start of the '21-22 season is "still set, while the team spends at least the next two seasons -- if not three -- dividing its home games between Barclays Center and the renovated Nassau Coliseum." Ledecky: "We are 1 billion percent focused on Belmont" (N.Y. POST, 4/10). Meanwhile on Long Island, Baumbach & MacGowan note the Islanders and NHL officials "dismissed speculation that the team or another professional hockey organization would consider moving to a 17,500-seat arena picked by Suffolk County officials." The Islanders and NHL officials yesterday "waved off questions about whether the team or the league would have any role in the project." Ledecky said, "We have no real knowledge of what’s going on in Suffolk." NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said that the proposed Suffolk County arena would "not be considered for an expansion team" to join the Islanders, Rangers and Devils. Daly: "I’m fairly certain that our Board of Governors would have no interest in, nor would they support, adding a fourth team -- either by expansion or relocation -- in the New York metropolitan area" (NEWSDAY, 4/10).
