The Twins postponed yesterday's game at Target Field, the final game of the opening home series, citing the "cold and snow," and the team "took a lashing" from fans for doing so, according to Eric Adler of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. The delay "came a week after the Twins jabbed fans reluctant to go to Thursday’s frigid home opener." Twins President Dave St. Peter last Monday tweeted, “Am I missing something? Aren’t we supposed to be the #BoldNorth?” St. Peter said that MLB and players for both the Mariners and Twins "supported the decision to postpone." He noted the Twins were “pretty beat up from playing in 27 degrees" on Saturday. St. Peter said the team was "most concerned" with the snowfall, which he called "not conducive to great baseball." He said he knew the weekend series against the Mariners was "going to be a challenge each and every day.” Asked about his tweet, St. Peter said, “In this world you make decisions one day at a time.” Adler notes the temperature yesterday "hovered just below freezing at what would have been game time and less than an inch of snow fell in the Twin Cities" as of 7:00pm CT (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/9). In St. Paul, Brian Murphy noted Saturday's first-pitch temperature of 27 degrees was the "coldest game the Twins have played in their 58 years in Minnesota." Thursday’s home opener was 38 degrees at game time (TWINCITIES.com, 4/8).
BAD DRAW: The Tigers have already had to reschedule three games this season due to weather, and THE MMQB's Peter King wrote they "have to have the worst schedule" in MLB history. King: "How could it be any worse than every one of the first 25 games on the schedule being played (or having a projected temperature) in weather never warmer than 48 degrees, with the majority of the games at 40 degrees or lower?"
