Sharks Looking To Double Size Of Current Practice Facility

The Sharks are "eyeing a major expansion" to their Solar4America Ice center in San Jose that would "add new rinks, a spectator arena, lounge and other features, doubling the size of the existing municipal ice skating center," according to George Avalos of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. The current ice skating center "totals roughly 177,000 square feet," and the proposal would "add nearly 178,000 square feet to the site." Sharks Sports & Entertainment, which operates the complex, proposed adding "two new ice skating rinks, including a community and practice rink and a competition rink" to the existing center, "often called Sharks Ice." The competition rink would "include a two-story spectator arena with up to 4,500 seats." The plan also "envisions a flexible event floor, locker rooms, a ticket lobby, private suites and a lounge." Sharks Ice "cautioned that the proposal is in the very early stages" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 4/6).
