Following Edelman's lead, police found a 14-year-old boy who admitted to posting the threatGETTY IMAGES

Patriots WR JULIAN EDELMAN late last month "received a direct message on his Instagram account" that said a kid in his comment section stated he was "going to shoot up a school." Edelman "quickly notified his assistant in Boston, SHANNEN MOEN, who looked through the hundreds of comments" that followed his most recent post. Detectives "collected some information about the person who posted the threat." They determined the sender's email and IP address, which was "traced to Port Huron, Mich." When the police arrived they "found a 14-year-old boy, who, they said, admitted to posting the threat" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/5). 

A SPECIAL NIGHT: Thanks to a "terrific 'reach-out'" by Marlins CEO DEREK JETER and team management a month ago, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High baseball team, along with their opponents from Coral Springs High School, played a game at Marlins Park last night. Marlins players also met with the teams in the clubhouse "earlier in the day before they boarded their plane for Philly" (MIAMI HERALD, 4/5).

NAMES: EARNIE SEILER, who helped create the Orange Bowl back in the '30s, will be "posthumously honored with the Football Bowl Association’s Legacy Award" for '18. Also being honored are the Sugar Bowl’s FRED DIGBY and WARREN MILLER, as well as the Cotton Bowl’s FIELD SCOVILL. The award, which is given to “individuals with distinguished service within the Bowl industry,” will be presented when the association holds its annual meetings in Boise from April 17-19 (MIAMIHERALD.com, 4/4)....Islanders C MATTHEW BARZAL has “turned up his fashion game” since arriving in N.Y. Barzal said, “I like my T-shirts long sleeved, and a little bit long and a little baggier.” He added, “Saint Laurent is becoming my favorite brand. I’ve been living with one of my teammates, [Islanders D] DENNIS SEIDENBERG, and his wife, REBECCA, who is into fashion. She’s becoming my stylist. She’s been introducing me to new brands and we’ll go online and shop together” (N.Y. TIMES, 4/5)....Broncos LB VON MILLER “recently posed happily with a very large shark he reeled in.” But the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is now “looking into whether any laws were broken in the catching of the hammerhead” (WASHINGTON POST, 4/5)....This season of ABC’s “DANCING WITH THE STARS” will be an “all-athlete competition,” featuring figure skater ADAM RIPPON, snowboarder JAMIE ANDERSON and former figure skater TONYA HARDING. The full cast will be announced on “GMA” on Friday, April 13 (USA TODAY, 4/5).
