Late Dolphins, Marlins and Panthers Owner WAYNE HUIZENGA was "remembered at a memorial service Thursday for his passion for life." The public service "took place at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts with about 1,400 people in attendance." Those in attendance included Florida Gov. RICK SCOTT, Supreme Court Justice CLARENCE THOMAS, NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL, Pro Football HOFer DON SHULA and former Nova Southeastern Univ. President RAY FERREO. A "private family service was held on Wednesday" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 3/30).

NAMES: With UNLV President LEN JESSUP's "imminent departure" from the university, the athletic department will "surely be impacted in the coming months" as the school goes through the process of finding a replacement. Jessup was a "hands-on president when it comes to athletics, and his fingerprints will be left across all sports." He was "front and center in supporting the Raiders stadium, which will become the home of UNLV football." It remains to be seen if the next president will "prioritize athletics as Jessup did" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 3/30)....Nine former NFLers participated in a "study that could one day lead to detecting" CTE in the "living and improve treatment for those who have suffered brain injuries." The volunteers gave "samples of blood, urine and saliva" and completed a 140-question background questionnaire. Nine volunteers among former NFLers is a "modest amount, but those conducting the study were pleased with the outcome of the first official 'collection'" (AZCENTRAL.com, 3/29)....Forbes' list of the Most Powerful Women In U.S. Sports for '18 included NBPA Exec Dir MICHELE ROBERTS (1), ISC CEO LESA FRANCE KENNEDY (2), SERENA WILLIAMS (3), ESPN Exec VP & CFO CHRISTINE DRIESSEN (4) and Big East Commissioner VAL ACKERMAN (5) (FORBES.com, 3/27)....Former Tennessee football coach BUTCH JONES was recently hired by Alabama as an analyst, and "will be paid $35,000 a year." His firing from UT last November "came with a buyout" of $8.2M (AL.com, 3/29).
