Padres' Fowler Says No Talks On Switching Stations After Controversy

Padres Exec Chair Ron Fowler insisted that there is "no truth" behind a rumor that the team has "pro-actively talked to other stations about a potential switch" from KEGY-FM after host Kevin Klein generated outrage on social media with a tweet earlier this week, according to Kirk Kenney of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Klein was "not on the air for the scheduled debut of his new morning show" on Thursday. The show was slated to debut in the 6:00-10:00am PT time slot, but he "never went on the air." There was "no immediate information from the station or Klein addressing the situation." Rumors have "swirled that the Padres will move their broadcasts to another station." However, Fowler before Thursday’s opener said that "nothing has been determined." Radio hosts for XEPRS-AM, the Padres’ "longtime home before moving two years ago, suggested a reunion on the air Wednesday afternoon." The Padres’ contract with Entercom, the parent company for KEGY, runs through '21. Fowler has "questioned the station format’s compatibility with the Padres’ brand, although voiding the contract likely would be complicated with the season already underway" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 3/30).
