Minnesota United Keeping Allianz Field Capacity Around 19,000

Allianz Field's capacity will be 19,400, well below the 23,138 the team had at TCF Bank Stadium on March 17MINNESOTA UNITED FC

Minnesota United ownership is "holding off" on a $30-40M expansion that would send Allianz Field capacity to around 25,000 when it opens next spring, according to Andy Greder of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. The stadium price tag "already has risen" from $150 to $200M in private money. Allianz Field "will have a capacity of 19,400, well below the announced crowd of 23,138 the Loons had for the home opener at TCF Bank Stadium on March 17." It is also "below seven straight crowds of more than 20,000 since July." Minnesota United CEO Chris Wright said, "That doesn’t mean to say that the demand remains and we begin to make financial sense of this incredible investment that they are making (and) we won’t go down that path." United’s season-ticket base "sits just south of 13,500, with plans to cap it somewhere between 14,000 and 15,000, leaving more than 4,000 seats available per game next season." The new stadium "will have a second round of 800 premium seats go on sale in the coming days, and demand is expected to be robust." Earlier this month, Minnesota United Senior Dir of Ticket Sales Sean Sittnick "revealed that season tickets for supporters will decrease" from $365 in '18 to $360 in '19 at Allianz Field "if renewal deadlines are met" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 3/24).
