NFL Franchise Notes: Raiders Active In Las Vegas Community Events

In Las Vegas, Mick Akers notes since the Raiders' move from Oakland became official nearly a year ago, team officials and former players have "taken part in dozens of community events" in their future home. The team has "donated thousands of dollars to Las Vegas charities." Raiders President Marc Badain said that the team "wanted to introduce the organization and its values to the community right away." Badain: "It was important, especially in new market, because people really don’t know you. So if the first touchpoint is you at a charity event or at somebody’s school trying to help fundraise for some cause, that shows the type of organization that we are and that we’re going to be" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 3/19).

FAMILY MATTERSThe Dallas Morning News' Tim Cowlishaw said of Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones keeping his GM role with the team, "As we've developed into this period where [Cowboys Exec VP, COO & Dir of Player Personnel Stephen Jones] seems to be as much in charge of the team and how it's managed as Jerry, there's not a lot of risks being taken. They take risks with weird second-round picks. That's their idea of risks these days." Dallas-based KRLD-FM radio host Steve Dennis said, "You have to have the will to win, which Jerry has always had in spades" (DALLASNEWS.com, 3/17).

SEE YOU IN COURT: In Newark, Tom Nobile noted a class-action lawsuit "has been filed" against the Jets after the team "announced that licenses would no longer be required to buy season tickets in MetLife Stadium's mezzanine section." Attorney Jeffrey Herrmann "filed the suit Friday in Superior Court on behalf of a longtime Jets fan from Connecticut who paid $8,000 in personal seat license fees for two seats" in '10. The suit "aims to recoup the license fees paid by his client and other fans who bought licenses for some 5,000 second-level seats in MetLife Stadium." Herrmann: "In essence, the actions of the Jets have offset the value of PSLs" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 3/17).
