Crew Chair Precourt Says Art Modell Law Doesn't Apply To Team

Crew Chair Anthony Precourt in a letter to Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said that he "does not believe the team is subject to Ohio's so-called Art Modell Law, but also outlined the steps in which it will attempt to comply with it," according to Andrew Erickson of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. The letter was sent from Crew ownership group Precourt Sports Ventures and MLS, and "reiterates the views expressed in a joint statement" from PSV and MLS that they "do not believe the Art Modell Law applies in this case." The letter said that even if the law were to apply, the city of Columbus "has had notice 'for some time' that the Crew might relocate and that locals have had 'the opportunity to take steps to seek to purchase ... the team.'" The letter "concluded with instructions to 'any individual or group of individuals ... interested in purchasing the rights to operate Crew SC' to contact them." Ginther's Dir of Media Relations Robin Davis said, "The only response to Mr. Precourt's letter is that our lawsuit is moving forward" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 3/17).
