Olympics Propel Yahoo-NBC To Top Of February Comscores List

The Pyeongchang Games in February powered the Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network alliance to its first win in monthly comScore sports rankings of multiplatform digital reach since the '16 Rio Games. Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network posted an audience of more than 93 million unique visitors, up sharply from its January total of nearly 58 million uniques, easily outpacing second-place ESPN with 71.2 million. The totals marked just the second time in the last four years that ESPN did not lead all sports entities in reach. The Yahoo Sports-NBC Sports Network figure also marked the best-ever February total for any sports entity and its own second-best month ever behind a Rio-fueled total of 110 million uniques in August ’16. The comScore figures follow internal NBC Sports reports of record-levels of Olympics streaming during the Pyeongchang Games. ESPN still topped the sports category in February in consumption metrics with a total of 3.84 billion minutes and an average of 53.9 minutes per user during the month. February, as expected, also marked the first month that SI was no longer part of the Fox Sports-Perform Media rollup. After those entities combined for an audience of 51.6 million uniques in January, SI by itself posted a total of 32.9 million in February, while Fox Sports-Perform Media had 23.9 million. The sports category overall in February had a total audience of 189.4 million, up 2.6% from January and up 6.8% from February ’17.
