League Notes

In N.Y., Benjamin Hoffman notes the Big3 named Basketball HOFer Clyde Drexler Commissioner to "lead the fledgling three-on-three league for the next three years." The league also created a "reworked" BOD. The commissioner vacancy was "created by a split with Roger Mason Jr." The firing of Mason on the "same day the league announced the schedule for its second season created a chaotic atmosphere, but with Drexler’s appointment the league is hoping to shift the focus back to its on-court product" (N.Y. TIMES, 3/16).

REID CALLS OUT NFL: In N.Y., Nicholas Parco notes free agent S Eric Reid "believes kneeling with Colin Kaepernick is the reason" he is still unsigned. Reid tweeted, “The notion that I can be a great signing for your team for cheap, not because of my skill set but because I’ve protested systemic oppression, is ludicrous.” He went on to clarify that GMs "aren't the ones allegedly blackballing him -- team owners are" (NYDAILYNEWS.com, 3/16).

MORE THE MERRIER? THE ATHLETIC's Pierre LeBrun surveyed the NHL's 30 GMs (no current Hurricanes GM) and asked, "Are you in favor of expanding the playoff format to include a 'play-in' round on each side involving let's say 7, 8, 9, 10?" Twenty-nine responded, and it "wasn’t close: 20 yes votes, six no votes, two GMs had mixed responses and one GM abstained." LeBrun: "So yes, there’s an overwhelming appetite among GMs for this discussion" (THEATHLETIC.com, 3/14).
