Jazz' Arena Installs Sensory Room For Children With Autism

Vivint Gives Back, the philanthropic arm of the Jazz' arena sponsor, has "installed a 'sensory room'" at the venue, where kids and individuals with "intellectual or developmental disabilities can go to cool off," according to Mike Gorrell of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The decibel levels at Vivint Smart Home Arena can be "pretty overwhelming for children who have autism or other neurodiverse conditions." Vivint Smart Home CMO Nate Randle said, "This space is about kids and families. To know there’s a spot where it’s quiet, and that Mom or Dad could bring a kid here for 15 to 20 minutes to settle down without having the leave the game, people are excited about that." Located in the sensory room are "more than a dozen features that could be used to calm down stimulated children" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 3/15). In Utah, Ben Lockhart notes the room will be "fully available to the public beginning March 30." Vivint Gives Back Dir Holly Mero-Bench said that it is only the "third such room available in NBA arenas," with the others located at Quicken Loans Arena and TD Garden. She added that Vivint Gives Back has already "built 54 sensory rooms in schools and homes across the world, including several in Utah, but this is the first time the organization has built one in such a large venue" (DESERET NEWS, 3/15).
