Georgia Tech athletics has received approval from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents to begin construction on an HD production facility. The $10M, 6,350-square-foot facility will be located on Georgia Tech's campus adjacent to McCamish Pavilion. It will be housed in currently vacant buildings that will be retrofitted to meet production demands associated with the ACC Network, set to launch in '19. The facility will include three control rooms and a production studio, along with support spaces and staff offices (Georgia Tech).
HOUSE HUNTERS: Miami-Dade County said that a plan to move the Marlins Park home-run sculpture unwanted by team CEO Derek Jeter to Miami's Museum Park "is 'dead' and that the hunt continues for a new place for the 'Homer' sculpture." Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs Dir Michael Spring said that the Museum Park plan was "no longer under consideration because of a belief that Miami wouldn't endorse it." In Miami, Douglas Hanks notes Spring "described Museum Park as one of three initial locations explored by the county in recent weeks." The other two are Miami Int'l Airport and PortMiami, "both county-owned facilities" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 3/8).
UNDER DISPUTE: The NBA Kings have been "promoting their showpiece hotel and condominium tower next to Golden 1 Center" for months, but the team and its development partners have been "involved in a series of contract disputes since last summer with electricians, landscapers, iron companies, roofers, bricklayers, air conditioning installers and others who have worked on the as-yet-unfinished structure." The project's general contractor, S.F.-based Swinterton Builders, last Friday filed a $36M lien on the property, an "indication that the project's subcontractors contend the Kings' development group, SG Downtown LLC, owes them that amount for work" on the estimated $200M project (SACRAMENTO BEE, 3/7).
