Michigan First Credit Union Sues Pistons Over Sponsorship Dispute

Michigan First Credit Union has sued Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Pistons, “alleging the team breached” a ‘16 sponsorship agreement, according to Annalise Frank of CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS. Michigan First got an injunction “requiring the Pistons to uphold a commitment to negotiate a new deal, but that injunction order was reversed earlier this week by the Michigan Court of Appeals.” It is “unclear if further action will be taken.” The credit union said that the Pistons “signed a new exclusive deal" with Flagstar Bancorp in the "course of the team's move from the Palace of Auburn Hills to Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, after agreeing to a sponsorship with Michigan First while still at the Palace.” Michigan First and the Pistons “agreed to a sponsorship deal” in November ‘16, shortly before the Pistons “announced they would move.” The agreement with Michigan First said that if a “move occurred, the Pistons could terminate the agreement with notice and would ‘in good faith’ negotiate opportunities for a new comparable deal.” PS&E “terminated the Michigan First deal in August” (CRAINSDETROIT.com, 3/1).
