Jazz Seeing Increased Interest Thanks In Part To Mitchell's Ascent

Gobert (l) and Mitchell have driven optimism that the Jazz could have a competitive roster long-termgetty images

Jazz games have become a "hot ticket" due in part to the recent on-court success and the "hype around" Rookie of the Year candidate G Donovan Mitchell, according to Kyle Goon of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The Jazz, who are 31-30 entering Friday's game against the T'Wolves, are playing before 97.1% capacity at Vivint Smart Home Arena and ticket outlet TickPick.com recently noted the team has the “third-highest increase in ticket prices since the season began, a jump of two thirds.” Jazz VP/Ticketing Chris Barney acknowledged that single-game prices are “jumping sharply” as the team battles for a playoff spot. Morgan Evans, who manages the Jazz in-arena team store, said that Mitchell's No. 45 jerseys are “flying off the racks faster than any the store has ever sold.” Fans specifically “demand the Jazz City Edition jersey he wore while winning last month’s Dunk Contest -- even though all City edition gear is sold out, and more may not be available until summer." Team officials point to a "'perfect storm’ of factors for the increased attention -- the recent winning streak; the "delight of a team that is staying competitive despite losing their biggest name in the offseason; the amenities of a renovated arena; an international cast of mostly likeable personalities.” Mitchell and C Rudy Gobert are “early in their careers, driving optimism that the duo could be the foundation of a competitive roster long-term.” Barney said that is partially why the Jazz have “seen season ticket renewals outpace last season, and why the Jazz are selling new season tickets starting Friday -- earlier than ever before” (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 3/2).
